Three organizations are coming together to turn the children's department at MOBAL "Dr. Stefan Cherkezov" into a magical space. Today in Veliko Tarnovo, the large-scale "Firefly" project of the "For the Good" Foundation, on which we will work together with the "America for Bulgaria" Foundation and the Rotary Club - Veliko Tarnovo, was launched.
The preliminary cost of the transformation is BGN 400,000. It should be completed in 8 months.
The beginning of the initiative was given in the presence of the deputy mayor of Veliko Tarnovo Neiko Genchev, the director of the hospital Dr. Krasimir Popov, the head of pediatrics Dr. Tochkov, representatives of the Foundation "For Good" and the Rotary Club, and Nancy Schiller, president of the "America for Bulgaria" Foundation.
Firefly will completely transform 13 rooms in the infant, toddler and adolescent sectors to create a friendly environment that supports the healing process. The rooms will light up with drawings and colors that entertain and soothe. Furniture and equipment will be added so that children and their parents feel almost at home. There will be a fun play area where sick children can socialize and stay social. Doctor's offices and manipulation offices will be renewed. The main entrance, the lobby and the reception office will look in a new way. Additional modern medical equipment will be provided.
"A hospital that doesn't look like a hospital" is the Firefly philosophy of change. It is based on research that proves that the environment is an active participant in the treatment of small patients. The friendly environment - clean, bright and colorful - accelerates the healing process, because it takes away the stress of children's illness, soothes their parents' worries and improves the working conditions of doctors and medics.
In the second stage of "Svetulka" there will be trainings to strengthen communication and trust between healers and those being treated.
"A firefly has the tremendous power to unite and change. It shows us that we can fight together as a society for a better and healing environment in the children's wards, and above all to put the child patient at the center of the healing process", said Nadezhda Rangelova, president of the "For Good" Foundation .
Nancy Schiller, President of the America for Bulgaria Foundation, shared her "Firefly" hope; to light up in more cities in Bulgaria. We believe that children, their families, and medical teams deserve quality health care in a supportive environment, added Ms. Schiller.
The president-elect of the Rotary Club - Veliko Tarnovo Nikolay Tonchev emphasized that the project becomes a cause for the club's 85th anniversary, which is being celebrated this year, and that it builds on the initiative of the Rotaract Club - Veliko Tarnovo to renovate the children's ward, which took place last year.
"The union we are making with the Foundation "For the Good" and with "America for Bulgaria" inspires and motivates me, because I believe in the positive meaning of togetherness. As our people have said: "A collusive group, a mountain rises", said Stanislav Stoyanov, chairman of the project commission in the RKVT, during the celebration. He recalled that children's healthcare is one of the main focuses of Rotary International. The Rotarians of Veliko Tarnovo call on all citizens of the region to join the initiative, because it is aimed at children from the entire region, in order to provide them with better conditions for treatment.
The "For the Good" Foundation has been changing the treatment environment for children in hospitals in Bulgaria for three years, because Bulgarian children deserve the best. "Svetulka" attracts and motivates local volunteers and donors to participate in improving conditions for children's health care, so that the change becomes sustainable.
There are already "Svetulki" in Aytos, Silistra, Plovdiv and Sofia. This year we will transform 4 departments. The children's ward in Veliko Tarnovo is the second in which we start work. Two weeks ago, the transformation of the pediatric sector in the hospital in Lovech was launched, the Foundation also shared.
The director of MOBAL "Dr. Stefan Cherkezov" - Dr. Krasimir Popov, emphasized that "The "Svetulka" project is an extremely ambitious project, because the assessment of the work will be given by the children, and Dr. Valentin Tochkov did not hide his excitement that small patients will receive the best environment for treatment in Bulgaria.
The project is supported by the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
