History of the Foundation

History

The For Good Foundation was founded on December 8, 2020, but its activities began in 2019 as an informal civic initiative Project #For Good, which united thousands of volunteers and donors across the country, as well as Bulgarians living abroad.

The causes of the For Good Foundation respond to public needs and deficits. We work conscientiously and transparently. We report our every action to donors and the media during each campaign.

The foundation is founded by 8 women. They are also among the initiators of the national civic initiative "For a Real Children's Hospital", which submitted a petition to the Bulgarian Parliament for the construction of a modern pediatrics hospital according to the highest standards of child health and treatment.

The For Good Foundation and the #ForGood Project have won numerous awards for civic activism and protection of children's rights.

How did it all start?

Everyone in Bulgaria has experience with Bulgarian hospitals, but for us it started from our bitter experience as parents of child patients. In 2019, Kremena Kuneva's daughter [co-founder and former member of the foundation, ed.] had to spend time in the nephrology department of the Sofia Pediatrics "Prof. Ivan Mitev". Then Kremena put out an appeal on social networks about the state of the department and called on all her acquaintances to help improve the conditions in this very important children's department. Dozens of people responded, the department changed in a very short time. Each of us joined the project with our personal cause and desire for change for the good of the children. Polina Troyanova, for example, an artist and restorer, painted the walls of the departments since Nephrology.

Shortly before this incident, Svilena Georgieva had been lying with her eldest son in an Infectious Diseases Clinic in Plovdiv and, seeing what happened in Sofia, she launched a campaign in Plovdiv.

After the renovation of the nephrology department, another important department in Pediatrics fell into crisis – the intensive care unit was closed. Then the idea for urgent renovation there was formed. Nadya Rangelova and Dimitrina Spirova agreed to take over the organization and thus another transformed department in Sofia was added. And so gradually Zhana Nikolova, Vanya Karadjova and Mariela Tsekova – people we did not know at all – got involved. We managed to unite around a common cause – changing the environment in children's hospitals.

The rest was magic and energy, which no coincidence brought us together and drives us to this day.
