The first "Firefly" of the Foundation "For the Good" is the children's ward of Dr. Markovska in Aytos. It was opened on May 11, 2022.
We converted 4 rooms, the intensive care unit and the isolator in the children's ward. We repaired, plastered, painted, approved interior design projects for each room, painted, came up with room names, created personalized play and dining spaces... Along the way we changed the balustrade and ceiling lights, bedside lamps, installed new and prettier baseboards on the windows…
Lots of donated labor and in-kind donations, lots of talented and enthusiastic volunteers!
So: we present to you the rooms At the Otter, At the Cats, At the Firefly, At the Raccoon, At the Frog, At the Duck.
Each room is a different color and has its own fairy tale world. In front of each room there is a tiny sign on which children can write their names in chalk.
The children's tables and chairs are already arranged. A furniture maker donated the cupboards, wardrobes and dining tables. The new new hospital beds have been installed with new medical mattresses that we bought. The underwear has pictures - with the themes of the forest world on the walls and was sewn especially for this children's department by a donor.
And the Ayto hospital is underfunded, and the crisis for doctors and staff is severe - children's healthcare is a long and painful topic.
We announced that we needed to provide equipment. We provided 6 perfusors, an aspirator, the professional inhalers, the medication tables, the patient monitor with printer. Venoscope? We expect it. The funds were donated by Rotary Club - Triaditsa. There are also tablets for children to study while on the ward.
The total value of the repairs, medical equipment and furniture that the foundation finances is BGN 71,900. Of these, BGN 25,400 is for medical equipment and furniture. Donations in kind are over BGN 35,000, including the design project, technical supervision, painting, lighting fixtures, sinks, batteries, custom furniture, blinds, wooden toys for the wall, air conditioners, the 6 small refrigerators for the rooms, computers and staff printers.
A hospital that doesn't look like a hospital. It turned out better than we imagined.
When we said in February that we were looking for designers to start the five #Firefly projects in five different cities, interior design agencies across the country responded.
Redox Interior Design took on the project, and Magi, Magdalena Slavova, almost moved from Varna to Aytos while the transformation was underway. He followed the renovation, chose the shades of colors, painted, finished painting. Until the cozy space is obtained, in which the children, although sick, feel happy children.
Today, Polly Troyanova and Maggie put the finishing touches on the walls with their artistic perfectionism.
And there are already children in the rooms, for whom the clean, bright and colorful hospital environment helps them to recover faster. That's the point of #Firefly.
