We have chosen June 1, 2020 – on International Children's Day – to start the Children's Beds for Healing campaign.
The purpose of specialized children's hospital beds is to provide the child with comfort and to protect him from injury and falls.
The soul and inspiration of the initiative is Polly Trayanova, one of the founders of the "For Good" Foundation. She ended up in a hospital in the midst of a pandemic emergency for emergency major brain surgery on her toddler.
Polly spent 9 days in St. Ivan Rilski", without leaving his bed for fear that he might fall or hit his head after the operation.
About 120 children aged about one year are treated in the hospital annually. But there is not a single specialized children's bed.
"Like all parents in a similar situation, I was exhausted. I vowed to change things," says Polly.
We organized a donation campaign together with Platformata.bg and an online charity auction of children's accessories and toys, books and educational games, art and educational courses for children and parents, cakes, sweets and decorations, stories on the phone, photo sessions. Over 100 lots donated by manufacturers and artists participated in the auction.
We collected the funds needed for 10 specialized hospital children's beds. The manufacturer is a French company. The cost of one bed is BGN 2,045.
With the kind support of the Medilon Bulgaria team – Antonios Sotirakis and Detelina Todorova - we were able to get an additional discount from the French manufacturer HMS Vilgo, as well as a discount on transport costs.
7 recovery beds were donated to the specialized pediatric hospital "Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev". 2 - of the neurological department at the University Hospital "St. Ivan Rilski". 1 – at the intensive care unit in the same hospital. We added suitable mattresses and sets of children's bedding to them.
BGN 1,000 of the collected funds were donated to the child of the doctor, Dr. Iliyana Ivanova from Sliven, who died of Covid-19.
