We officially opened the "Little Fireflies" Day Center for Ukrainian children fleeing the war. It is a continuation of the children's centers in "Muzeyko" and "Shalom", which we organized together with the "America for Bulgaria" foundation, "Muzeyko" and "Organization of Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom".
At the beginning of the year, several Ukrainian mothers founded the parents' cooperative "Маленьки світлячки" ("Little Fireflies") to create a place for children to do activities, so that their parents fleeing the Russian war could work and integrate in our country.
In a few months, "Little Fireflies" became a community that gives Ukrainian mothers peace of mind that they are not alone, confidence that they will make it, sharing and concern, humanity. The center changed not only them, but also the neighborhood.
40 Ukrainian children aged 4 to 6 are our "little fireflies". The engine of the center is 6 Ukrainian women who overcame the anxiety and sorrow for their loved ones in Ukraine and help others: 4 educators, a nurse, a cook who prepares food for the children on site. The children's program includes yoga classes, art, English and math classes, daily walks.
The building was provided by the Metropolitan Municipality at the proposal of the "Lozenets" District. We found it in a rather bad condition and had to make a serious repair. Its value is BGN 100,000, more than half of which is donated volunteer work, in-kind donations from partners and individual donors.
90% of the maintenance of the center is provided by the fees that the parents pay. The For Good Foundation covers the cost of electricity, water, internet and supplies, through a dedicated donation to cover supplies and overhead from Jared and Katie Mitchell.
