Project "Firefly" launched at "Elin Pelin Hospital" - care, comfort and
hope for the little ones
On December 18, 2024, the pediatric department of Elin Pelin Hospital announced the launch of the Firefly project - another step towards creating a hospital environment that not only heals, but also brings peace and warmth. The initiative, organized by the For Good Foundation, will be implemented in partnership with the Elin Pelin Municipality, Elin Pelin Hospital and the local community.
The mission of Project Firefly
The project aims to modernize and improve the environment in children's hospital wards, combining functionality, comfort and aesthetics. The main focus is on creating a healing atmosphere that puts the child and his best interest at the center of attention. This transformation will ensure better quality care for patients and improve working conditions for medical staff.
The Pediatrics Department at Elin Pelin Hospital will be completely transformed. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Elin Pelin Municipality, which is committing 100,000 leva, Elin Pelin Hospital and the local community, part of the necessary funding has already been secured. The For Good Foundation will finance the architectural project and will actively work to raise the remaining funds.
Vision for the new department
After the renovation, the department will offer modern and comfortable conditions for its patients and their families. The changes include:
Expansion and modernization
"Elin Pelin Hospital" will expand the area of the ward by incorporating adjacent premises. The total area of about 250 sq.m. will be increased to provide more space and functionality. In addition, the oxygen and vacuum installations, as well as the plumbing system, will be modernized.
The total cost of the project amounts to approximately 465,000 BGN. After successful fundraising, preparatory and renovation activities will start in the spring of 2025. During the renovation, the ward will be temporarily relocated to ensure that young patients continue to receive care without interruption.
Opportunity to participate
The Firefly Project is an example of the power of unity between the non-governmental sector, the local community, business, the municipality and the hospital. It demonstrates that together we can achieve significant changes for the sake of children.
On July 1, 2026, after months of planning, renovations, meetings, painting, furniture assembly, countless hours of work, and immense faith that together we can change children's healthcare, the day finally came - we officially opened the completely renovated pediatric ward of the MHAT – Elin Pelin
The opening of the completely transformed ward at Elin Pelin Hospital is another step towards our big dream of a complete ReDesign of children's healthcare, where "hospitals don't look like hospitals", the child patient is placed at the center of care, and the environment becomes part of the treatment.
What did we do in the ward?
Happy Birthday to our Firefly Elin Pelin!
We continue because every child deserves a hospital that doesn't look like a hospital!
