Today we celebrate World Social Workers Day!
Happy holiday to the people who often remain "invisible" to the system, but are irreplaceable to children, families, and everyone in need. They bring humanity to care.
On this day, we want to thank them, but also share something new that we have been working on for some time. A role in children's healthcare that still sounds unknown to Bulgaria, but is an established practice in pediatric care worldwide -
Child Life Specialist.

What does this mean in practice?

A Child Life Specialist is a health professional who is part of the medical team and works side by side with doctors, nurses, and social workers, but with a clear focus - the psychosocial needs of the child and his family.

His role includes:
🔹 to prepare the child for upcoming procedures, surgeries or diagnoses through understandable language and age-appropriate explanations;
🔹 use therapeutic play to help the child understand what is happening and express their emotions;
🔹to create individual strategies for coping with stress, fear and pain;
🔹to provide support to parents and family who are also going through a strong emotional experience;
🔹 to be the voice of the child in the medical environment – protecting his needs and right to understanding and peace of mind;
🔹 work closely with the entire team to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care;
🔹 to contribute to an environment that reduces trauma and supports normal development, even in conditions of illness.

It is a profession that does not directly treat the body, but has a proven impact on treatment outcomes, patient and family experience, and long-term mental health.
Foundation #ForGood We are pioneers in Bulgaria in this direction.
We are the first to actually work towards introducing such a position in the Bulgarian healthcare system.

We are already in contact with the Association of Child Life Professionals and are actively discussing adapting the model in our country, while at the same time working on creating a pilot project. A project that involves real efforts, research, meetings, analyses, and the search for a sustainable model that would work in Bulgarian conditions.
In our reality, this profession can be a key part of solving a number of problems in children's healthcare, including staff shortages and the enormous burden on medical teams.

Because there is always someone needed,
who can take on the emotional care.
💛Someone to be there for the child when he is afraid.
💙 Someone to be there for the parent when they don't know what's coming.
💜Someone to make the work of doctors and nurses easier,
so they can focus on the medical part.

We believe that the future of children's healthcare is complex.
And that care includes treatment and understanding, support and humanity.
Therefore, on this day, we say thank you once again, dear people involved in social care! ✨💙
And we continue to work,
to have more people in the system,
who should carry this particular care. 💛

Follow our page, in the coming weeks we will introduce you to this role, its importance, and its path to Bulgaria in more detail.
