A child never forgets a stay in the hospital. In the hospital room, where children encounter fear, pain and the unknown, it is not only the medicines that matter, but also the words. The way a doctor speaks to a child. The look at a worried parent. The gesture that builds trust in a moment of vulnerability. This is where the need for a program arises that not only teaches medical care, but also cultivates empathy, patience and professional compassion.
The training program is part of the initiative "Academy for Therapeutic Communication in Healthcare", created by the For Good Foundation in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Work of the New Bulgarian University. The work on The project was launched jointly with the Children's Hospital "Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev" two years ago, when the first focus groups with healthcare professionals at the hospital were held. Discussions and data collection from hospitals and pediatric departments in other cities in the country followed in order to structure a program that would meet both the needs and the specifics of our healthcare system.
The training covers 60 academic hours, combines theory and practice and is led by NBU lecturers, proven experts in the fields of healthcare, psychology and medical communication. It is intended for pediatricians, nurses, psychologists, speech therapists and other specialists working with children in a hospital environment.
A partner in the implementation of the pilot project will also be Bulgarian Pediatric Association (BPA), which officially supports the program and will participates in all stages of its implementation and introduction.
The course is intended for pediatricians, nurses, psychologists, speech therapists, social workers and other specialists working with children in a hospital environment. The first 30 participants will be accepted through a scholarship program funded by the For Good Foundation and NBU.
The training will start after the official selection stage of the participants, and the application will be open until June 30th. the form here.
"We want to change not just the conditions in which the child is treated, but how he feels during the treatment. Because a hospital stay should not be a trauma, but an opportunity for recovery - with care, understanding and trust - believe the Foundation team and add: - This is just the first step in the broader mission - to return humanity to healthcare. Because children remember not only the procedures, but also how they felt. And when medicine and empathy go hand in hand - treatment has not only a physical but also a psychological aspect."
